Do people die once they have fulfilled their purpose in life?

Do people die once they have fulfilled their purpose in life? Or do they die because it is an inevitable part of the circle of life?

If the first, would you want to know what your purpose is, if knowing would lead to fulfilling it and ultimately to death? Do you expect to be rewarded for fulfilling your purpose? I cannot see how it could be the first option here, when there are so many people living to a ripe old age of 80 and older. If this option was viable, would it mean that these aged human beings missed out on their purpose? What made their lives worth living then? It could not have been their purpose that made it worth while.

Is finding your purpose in life really that important, if you could lead a long and happy life without ever knowing the purpose of your birth, your life here on earth? Could you live without knowing? Could you just be content living your life from day to day in appreciation and gratitude for what you already have? Is your chase for purpose in life, for the knowledge of that purpose, causing you to only give a fraction of yourself to your friends and family, your relationships?

Is this perhaps the true essence of Carpe Diem – seizing each day with all that you are?
